A variety of workshops, from Creative Writing to Screenwriting, has been compiled by successful authors, journalists and screenwriters especially for S.T.A.R.S. In these workshops essential information has been condensed so participants understand how each industry works and how it should be professionally presented. Emphasis is also placed on how to market and sell the finished work. Information received in every course is current and comes from a professional level and is taught by a qualified trainer but we still make sure they are fun and interactive.
MEETINGS
We hold two (2) different types of meetings on a regular basis. Our Film Industry Meetings are for those interested in short film or feature film making and/or screenwriting. We also have our Writers Circle on Saturday afternoons for those interested in honing their prose or poetry skills in a fun environment. Our meetings vary widely in their format. We may have national and internationally acclaimed guest speakers to share their industry knowledge and insider information, or we might have a book launch, a movie premier, a competition or an industry panel.
COMMUNITY
Members have always maintained a strong community spirit. Nerida regularly gives talks at LOCAL LIBRARIES to rooms full of budding novelists or screenwriters. The GOLD COAST ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE is the recipient of our Reverse Santa at each year's Christmas break-up. Members have been very generous in their donations of dog and cat food.
The GOLD COAST HOSPITAL CHILDREN WARD were pleased to accept a gift of hundreds of pocket sized Sesame Street and other character dolls especially collect for the purpose by author/member, Ann Mills. It is hoped that they will bring some joy into the lives of the many children who need long term stays in hospital. Ann, with her husband John and Nerida, were welcomed by hospital staff and given a tour of the Children's Ward and the causality section. Staff were delighted when Ann presented them each with a tiny character of their own.
CANDLES FOR CANCER fundraiser. During the month of August, with the support of STARS, Nerida set a goal of raising $500 to be donated to Cancer Research. By selling a range of lead free naturally fragranced candles she actually raised $643. Why candles? Throughout the world candles are used for celebrating life's milestones and remembrance of loved ones lost. So it seemed appropriate to use these beautiful items as a fundraiser.
EVENTS
Some coming events for 2011 are: Book launches, Members Writing Challenges, Mini Workshops, Winter Snap Short Story Competition, Spring Poetry Slam and internationally acclaimed guest speakers.

MEMBERSHIP and ADVANTAGES
S.T.A.R.S. members receive a number of advantages. Memberships are due for renewal by June 30th each year. Pro-rata rates are available for new members.
'E' MAGAZINE
Members are kept informed about events, competitions and film festivals along with a little hot gossip and cool tips in the monthly E-newsletter. Members are encouraged to make contributions, promote their film, book or play, give reviews and advertise for film crews or any other information or assistance they might need for their projects.
